Woman is not eye candy
Wool, ceramic, reflective cloth | exhibited in video | 2025
Prisma Estúdio, Lisbon
This collaborative artwork by Hsien Ni Ping and Jui-Pin Chang draws inspiration from the traditional Eastern metaphor of women as a “beautiful vase” — a phrase historically rooted in patriarchal condescension. The piece reclaims and subverts this notion, transforming irony into empowerment. The work embodies more than surface beauty. Constructed from a fusion of traditional and contemporary materials, it incorporates two heritage techniques — blue-and-white overglaze and embroidery — juxtaposing the rigidity of ceramics with the softness of wool and reflective fabric.
The figure of a “walking vase” becomes a poetic metaphor for the pursuit of freedom and individuality, challenging conventional constraints. It celebrates the enduring and irreplaceable value of women across time and culture.

The Spirit of Precious Bao
Gray cloth, ceramic pieces, acrylic paint, stainless steel wire | 90x70cm | 2023
Taipei Fashion Show
Taipei, Taiwan
The concept of Precious Bao originates from a humble element of everyday life — the bao, a common steamed bun in Chinese cuisine. This artwork transforms that familiar symbol into a visual and material expression of cultural and spiritual reflection.Drawing inspiration from the ancient Chinese jade burial suit, the vest of the piece replicates its form through countless handmade ceramic fragments. By combining contemporary interpretation with historical reference, the work bridges the sacred and the ordinary, the living and the eternal.
Precious Bao reflects on the inevitability of death while affirming that inner vitality — the human spirit — transcends physical existence. It celebrates continuity, transformation, and the quiet resilience embedded in everyday symbols of life.
